OK, so I'm still talking about the August Bank Holiday weekend - but I guess that is because I had such a good time.
I went to Salsa Bonanza 7 in the Gresham Metropoe Hotel - a festival which has been taking place on this particular weekend now for seven years - but this was my frst time attending. I have a history of loving salsa dancing but had let it slide in recent years - so this was my mighty return, if only for one weekend. But what an intensive weekend it was - classes all day Saturday and Sunday and dancing both nights as well. Actually there was also a Friday night welcoming party and a bus trip/day out to the beach on the Monday - but I budgeted my energy to last me for the two core days! As it was my limbs were aching both during and afterwards!
We had some great instructors - and if only I'd practice more often, I know I'd benefit! The demonstrations they gave at the night-time parties were only amazing!
There is something so happy about latin music and most of the people who follow salsa are friendly, fun people whom it was a pleasure to meet.
Sunday night was the fancy dress night -and below are some of the pics showing the effort people went to. OK, there are none of me - fancy dress was optional so I opted to go as, ahem... myself... how boring!
Above is Yolande Lewis, an instructor from the UK, who went with a Hawaiin look. She is such a graceful dancer and a super-nice person too. Here she is dancing with Pete Watts.
Above is Sharon as a sexy pirate, Tony as a Mexian and Sylvia as a Lady-bird.
These girls (known as Charlie's Angels in salsa circles) from Dublin went as "gold-diggers". Kanye West would have been so proud!
Vanda and Nuno - instructors from Poland - sensational!
The winning outfit! Aliens, aka dance instructors Lee and Shelley.
Drita, as a belly-dancer with Alain as an American Footballer....
And Drita with fellow belly-dancing babe Georgina...
The all girl dance performance grop Fusion who mixed a bit of Irish dance in their salsa routine.
And phfoooor... a doctor and nurse to get your pulses racing for sure... Patrick and Tia.
