My trip to Madrid... in colour...
It's just a memory already... sob... but here are some pics from my recent visit to Madrid. To get a feel for the city, I took the open-top bus tour (above)... and was pleasantly surprised to see lots of great architecture. I guess none of their buildings are well known in the way the Eiffel Tower is in Paris, the Pantheon in Rome, Big Ben in London for example... so I hadn't much idea of what to expect prior to going.
After a night on the tiles, breakfast was beside the tiles!!! You see ornate tiles a lot in Madrid actually... but I digress... check out the size of the breakfast above (ok, maybe technically it was lunch - it was a tad late in the day when I surfaced.) It was truly a cholesterol feast... if anything is going to block your arteries, this is it! There must have been six or seven fried eggs in there on top of a pile of chips, seemingly served in the pan it was cooked in. When the menu indicated potato and egg, I was innocently expecting some kind of potato omlette... I was so wrong! Still, in a funny way, it really hit the spot as comfort food, which was very neccessary at that point!
I saw the first glimpse of Christmas in Madrid really before I saw it here. That's me above in front of the rather unusual Christmas Tree in Playa Mayor.
On the way back from an afternoon at the Museo Del Prado, stopped by this beautiful fountain for a photo opportunity! The Musee Prado featured lots of the old masters like Goya, Bosch and El Greco. From there I went to the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia which houses modern art... and I was particularly happy to see one of my favourites 'Guernica' by Picasso (pictured below). Seeing it in the flesh, it didn't disappoint... really big and dramatic.

..... And that's me meeting the locals... well, I had to practice my Spanish, didn't I? This was in a bar in which I attempted some Spanish dancing. I was having a laugh... but the Spaniards take it all very seriously and if you dance 'incorrectly' you're told about it!
Damn paparrazzi, they follow me everywhere!!!!Getting some.. ahem.. dancing lessons from the rather dishy Alvaro.

The only question is whether or not the the attentions of the spanish boys were wasted
Now that would be telling!!

Yum is right... thanks for the feedback, pure cork girl!
Madrid is a great spot. Did you make it to the famous shopping Centre, La Vaguada? Or to the Bernabau Stadium? Placa Espanol and placa major are cool spots too.
Don't think I got to that shopping centre... shopping time was limited so wherever I stopped I splurged basically! Wouldn't have had much interest in the stadium to be honest. All the squares were lovely... nice people too. Also met an Aussie couple Ryan and Michelle who were travelling a bit of the world and had already visited Egypt and India. Hung out with them at the art gallery and swapped stories.
Poor poor Johnathan!! How could you, martina?? Haha!!
