Car-clamping vermin.
Last night I suffered the horror of having my car towed away by those insidious creatures, the clampers. Patricks Quay, just in case you're interested was the location in question. Now I consider myself a law abiding citizen and never park on double yellow lines, for instance. I always see cars parked in this particular area so thought nothing of it. Saw no double yellow lines either. Turns out, however, that this section is for buses only... you'd know that from the tiny subtle sign, wouldn't you??
It was distressing enough to find my car gone.... but the price??? That's what really tipped me over the edge. €160 to get my car back! That's legalised criminality... first they rob your car and then they rob your money! The punishment certainly doesn't fit the crime. The street, being so vague with it's signage, is such a soft target to prey on people who have made a genuine mistake. How many other €160's did they earn from just that street alone last night.... and every other night? Yeah, I'm sure there were lots of buses queueing to park there at 9 o'clock at night!
These clamping sub-species must be paid a whole lot of money to do the job. I can't imagine, in this Celtic Tiger age, how anyone with a shred of decency would want to stoop so low as to have this extortion as an occupation.
Had just come from a play in The Everyman - the most expensive play I've ever been to, as it turns out! I could have seen the world's biggest stars on Broadway for that money.... NOT A HAPPY CAMPER!
